John 20:15-17 NKJV
15 Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?” She, supposing Him to be the gardener, said to Him, “Sir, if You have carried Him away, tell me where You have laid Him, and I will take Him away.”
16 Jesus said to her, “Mary!” She turned and said to Him, “Rabboni!” (which is to say, Teacher).
17 Jesus said to her, “Do not cling to Me, for I have not yet ascended to My Father; but go to My brethren and say to them,’ I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and My God and your God.’
Jesus Calls
Jesus calls Mary’s name. She immediately recognizes who Jesus is. He calls us! Do you acknowledge Jesus when He calls you? Sometimes, with this world’s troubles, we can get so distraught that we don’t remember who Jesus is, but He knows us. Yes, we got bills going on, the children may not be acting right, the people on the job don’t recognize your gifts and talents, your body is not working with you, things are not just going your way, but Jesus knows what you are going through.
Jesus Comforts
Mary is comforted by the voice of Jesus. She immediately transforms from sorrow into excitement and joy. Reading or listening to His Word, singing a song of praise, looking at God’s creation are ways to be comforted by Jesus. We have the Holy Spirit as our comforter. Recognize when Jesus is speaking to you!
Jesus Commissions
After Jesus calls Mary’s name and she is comforted, He doesn’t stop there. He commissions her to tell the disciples that He has risen from the dead. We don’t serve a dead God or some piece of rock or wood. We serve a risen Savior. When you are comforted, tell others your testimony. Sing praises about the great things He has done in answering your prayers for unlocking doors, healing, and spiritual power.
Jesus calls you by name!
Pause and think about the fact that the God of the universe, the everlasting, all-knowing, all-mighty God, the sovereign God, the glorious God knows you by name.
God loved you enough to send His only begotten Son, and when you believe in Him, you will not perish but have everlasting life.
He knows you.
You are never alone.
You are the apple of His eye.
He called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.
He sanctified you through His blood. Now you can go boldly to the throne of grace.
His blood purchased you, and He is at the right hand of the Father, interceding for you.
So remember that when you are going through,
- Jesus Calls You
- Jesus Comforts You
- Jesus Commissions You!
